Workshop on the Development of Research and Community Service Roadmap at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering
Yogyakarta, June 18, 2025
On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a Workshop on the Development of Research and Community Service Roadmap was held for the lecturers of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. This activity aimed to provide strategic guidance in developing research and community service roadmaps aligned with the university’s vision and mission.
The workshop featured Prof. Ir. Selo, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., an academic and expert in the field of engineering with extensive experience in institutional roadmap-based research development. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of aligning research and community service activities with institutional development directions. He also highlighted the need for multidisciplinary collaboration and the mapping of each lecturer’s areas of excellence.
One of the key components in strategic planning is the Project Action Plan (PAP), a detailed plan that outlines the steps, resources, and timelines required to achieve specific program objectives. PAP consists of several core components that serve as a roadmap for the implementation and monitoring of programs, including:
Identifying the objectives to be achieved
Specific action plans needed to reach those objectives
Allocation of required resources
Timeline for each step
Assignment of responsibilities for each action
Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track progress
Today, universities are no longer merely academic centers. They are expected to take on more strategic roles that make a real impact on national development. Therefore, the development of roadmaps is essential to maintain flexibility in adapting plans according to evolving needs.
In the roadmap development process, the SWOT analysis method (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) can help institutions identify influential internal and external factors. This method ensures that program activities are carried out in an organized and efficient manner, provides clear direction and accountability, and facilitates the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of program progress and outcomes.
With the successful implementation of this workshop, it is hoped that the lecturers of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering will be able to develop more focused and strategic research and community service roadmaps, contributing significantly to the achievement of institutional goals and the advancement of knowledge. This activity marks an important first step in strengthening the role of universities as drivers of innovation and solutions for societal challenges.
