Let’s Check Out the Excitement of the 2023 Chemical Engineering Field Trip

The 2021 batch students of the Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s Program at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta organized an Offline Field Trip activity. This annual event aims to broaden the students' knowledge about chemical operations and processes in the Chemical Industry and Companies. The Field Trip took place from June 8 to 12, 2023, visiting five chemical factories, including PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia, PT Petro Oxo Nusantara, PT Petronika in Gresik Regency, and PT Yakult Indonesia Persada’s Mojokerto Plant in East Java.

The Field Trip agenda consisted of two main activities. The first activity was an introduction to the company profile held indoors, which included welcoming speeches from the companies, presentations on company profiles, production processes, utility units, and waste treatment units, followed by a Q&A session, sharing work experiences, quizzes, and door prizes. The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and group documentation. The second activity was a factory tour, guided and facilitated by the company. During this session, participants had the opportunity to visit the plant area and observe the production processes, tools involved, and the jetty area of the company.

The 2023 Field Trip participants appeared very enthusiastic and actively asked questions to the company representatives from start to finish, with the company representatives providing detailed responses. The Field Trip 2023 coordinator, Indriana Lestari, S.T., M.T., stated, "This Field Trip is part of the Semester IV course and is carried out by inviting students to visit chemical factories directly, so they can see firsthand the tools and processes in the industry, especially in the chemical industry, which cannot be fully imagined through classroom theory. Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain knowledge directly from experts and practitioners."

After the Field Trip in the Chemical Industry, the event continued with an educational tour to Cocoaland Bali. It is hoped that this Field Trip will increase the knowledge, information, and awareness of the latest developments in the world of work, specifically in the chemical industry and chemical companies, for the 2023 Field Trip participants.
