UPNVY Students Utilize Plastic Bottle Waste to Create Pipe Adhesive

Sleman - The Libola PKM-M UPNVYK team, short for Peduli Limbah Botol Plastik (Concern for Plastic Bottle Waste), has carried out a series of community service activities in Sukunan Village. This program is titled “Utilizing Plastic Bottle Waste to Create Pipe Adhesive.” Inorganic waste takes a long time to decompose. Therefore, the Libola team, guided by Mrs. Ismianti, S.T., M.Sc., and led by Sinta Nur Senja (Industrial Engineering 2017), Indah Putri Wahyuni (Industrial Engineering 2017), Salsabila Shafia Dyaninta (Industrial Engineering 2017), Akmal Baihaqi (Metallurgical Engineering 2017), and Hanif Ardiyan (Industrial Engineering 2018), proposed an innovative idea to transform plastic bottle waste into a useful and economical product: pipe adhesive.
On Sunday, August 13, 2020, the Libola group conducted a socialization session via the online platform Zoom Meeting. The event was enthusiastically attended by the administrators of the Sukunan Village independent waste bank. The socialization activities began with an animated video, followed by explanations of the background and objectives, the occupational health and safety (K3) of the manufacturing process, steps in creating pipe adhesive from plastic bottles, and concluded with a Q&A session and documentation.
"With this program from UPN, it can provide and add innovation as well as enrich the waste management techniques that already exist in Sukunan Village. I hope this initiative can develop in Sukunan Village and have high commercial value. This could serve as an alternative in waste management. I hope there will be continued support from UPN for further developments. Kudos to the PKM students who carried out this program, and I hope it proves beneficial," said Mr. Harno, one of the administrators of the Sukunan Village independent waste bank.
Despite being held online, the enthusiasm and spirit of the community and the Libola PKM-M team remained strong. The hope is that the continuity of this program will run smoothly and benefit many parties.
