Scientific Writing Training for Reputable Journal Publication (Part 1)

Scientific works published in national and international journals are a requirement for a lecturer to apply for a functional position promotion. This requirement, especially when the scientific work is published internationally, often hinders lecturers in the FTI environment from advancing their functional positions. Therefore, this training is highly needed by lecturers in the FTI environment to understand what needs to be done in publishing in reputable journals and to improve the quality of their scientific work.
This training featured a speaker from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Mr. Alva Edy Tontowi, Ph.D. He stated that a career as a lecturer should embrace the tri dharma (three pillars of higher education), so that lecturers play an active role as scientists and engineers. The training also explained the steps involved in preparing a publication, such as creating paper content, selecting relevant reputable journals, and then starting to write the paper using supporting tools like Microsoft Word, Mendeley, PowerPoint, CAD, and others. At the end of the training, Mr. Alva Edy Tontowi, Ph.D. encouraged lecturers in the FTI environment to start writing and not to be afraid of making mistakes.

Mendeley Training for FTI Lecturers
On Monday, October 21, the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta held a Mendeley training session in the Informatics Seminar Room for lecturers within the FTI environment. The aim of this training was to assist lecturers in learning reference management using Mendeley, an Open Source reference management application that can be accessed for free.
